Dance/NYC is the only NYC-based service entity with a substantive history of research, including the Economic Impact of Dance in New York City and Census of New York City Dance-makers, and the only one with the authority to speak on behalf of the entire NYC dance industry. Through research, Dance/NYC can guide strategic and responsive policy and funding development and improve industry management—strengthening dance in NYC.

Dance/NYC extends its history of research with a State of NYC Dance report based on the first-ever New York State Cultural Data Project data on NYC nonprofit dance groups. Prepared by leading cultural researcher Catherine Lanier and in partnership with the Alliance for the Arts and The Municipal Art Society of New York, this report provides a snapshot of a vital segment of the NYC dance industry and its activity, audiences, finances and resources. This study has been made possible by leadership support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and The New York Community Trust.

The Dance/NYC Junior Committee is currently partnering with Rutgers’ Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy to produce an employment report on its relative peer group, dance workers ages 21-35. For more on this project, click here.
